Visitor's Envy is an Evitr megachurch on Lukyr Prime that serves as a gathering place for elite members of society. The building features sophisticated Yedyr sound-suppression technology and multiple security checkpoints, creating an atmosphere of exclusivity and secrecy.
Architecture and Layout
The church has a layered security structure with multiple frosted glass doors, each guarded by pairs of sentries in shirt and tie. The pneumatic door mechanisms give the impression of airlocks. Each successive layer appears to grant access to deeper levels of the facility, suggesting a hierarchical structure to physical access.
The main hall contains a presentation space with a massive screen and holo-theater on a stage. The hall is filled with hundreds of attendees who gather around small tables or sit in audience rows, all wearing formal attire (shirts or suits).
The walls are densely decorated with ornaments and extravagant decorative patterns, making it difficult to distinguish where technological devices might be embedded.
Technology
The building employs Yedyr technology for sound suppression throughout the main hall. This creates an effect where voices are severely dampened even at normal speaking volume — people must speak at regular volume just to be heard by someone standing next to them, and even then the sound reaches the listener muffled. The technology can be toggled on and off, with a lighting shift from warm yellow-white to deep golden orange serving as a visual warning before the suppression is deactivated.
This sound suppression is intentionally used for discretion, allowing attendees to have private conversations even in a crowded room. The technology is expensive — described as something only "those who are rich enough to afford Yedyr for its side-effect" can employ.
Culture and Function
Visitor's Envy serves as more than a religious venue. Ribo Mire characterizes it as "little more than an exclusive club among the elite" — a calling card used to obtain perceived legitimacy among peers. The church employs "an enigmatic set of rules that was used to ostracize and to silence."
The sentries speak in formal, ritualized language, asking visitors "What is your ambition?" and referring to attendees as "Honored Aspirants." They describe law enforcement as "servants of order" and offer parting phrases like "May your visit prove enlightening."
The institution cooperates with law enforcement when necessary, though Ribo suspects "these people hold more power than anyone would like to admit" and that "they've covered up a crime or ten."
History
Visitor's Envy survived the departure of Evitr and the revelations brought about by Solim. While the Church's top officials were publicly outraged by these events and scholars debated their implications, the actual attendees of churches like Visitor's Envy appeared largely unconcerned — suggesting the institution's real function has little to do with genuine belief in Evitr's decrees.
Kaiser's Escape (November 8044)
In November 8044, Sergeants Ribo Mire and Anne Cyra tracked Kaiser (Frederick Korough) to Visitor's Envy based on holomask malfunction footage. He sat alone at a table near the stage, wearing a white-golden jacket. When the sergeants attempted to apprehend him, prepared accomplices among the venue's guests obstructed them — one man called attention from the stage, another threw a table at Anne Cyra.
Kaiser escaped through a back exit to a private spaceport — revealing that the building has direct access to a private spaceport, suggesting it caters to high-mobility clientele who may need to depart quickly. He likely had a ship and pilot on standby.
