Styvin Fring-Warpine

"Tomas Lithe. For the protection of the Empire, it is hereby immediately demanded of you to leave this world in service of the Emperor. A means of doing so will be provided. Your compliance is expected."

Styvin Fring-Warpine is the 1st Commander of the Royal Brigade and great-grandson of Emperor Rovin Warpine in the year 7354. His formal title is "1st Commander of the Royal Brigade, Vanquisher of the Rotten Branch, Great-Grandson of the Emperor, his Royal Highness Lord Commander." He is an intimidating military leader who commands absolute authority, possessing an unknown ability to freeze people in place. He led the imperial response to SYMMETRY's approach to Lukyr Prime.

Appearance

Styvin's appearance is striking and marked by heavy Eternium usage:

Major scar: A severe scar runs from the front of his neck all the way up to his hairline — an injury no one should have survived, but he evidently did.

Eternium markers:

Tomas, who studied these effects in his early career, estimates Styvin to be 200-350 years old. The upper limit is constrained not by his appearance but by circumstance — he is Rovin Warpine's great-grandson, and Rovin himself is just under 500 years old. With Eternium granting limitless time and health, the elite "like to take it slow."

Bearing: Completely unlike what one might expect from the grand announcement, yet still appropriately serious. Carries himself with intimidating gravitas.

Abilities

Freezing (Sylvian Imprisonment)

Styvin possesses the ability to freeze people in place — confirmed in SFL-TA Chapter 7 as the Sylvian physical imprisonment power. When a young scientist at the palace roundtable attempted to withdraw from the SYMMETRY mission by raising his arm (shaking), Styvin looked at him with an unchanged expression. The young man froze completely still — no longer shaking, but otherwise completely motionless, arm still raised.

The stillness was unnatural. Styvin nodded approvingly and left without explanation. The young scientist's fate remains uncertain.

Confirmed as Sylvian: In Chapter 7, Kristopher Yette imprisons Byran Kale using the same technique. Tomas immediately recognizes it: "I've seen that before. The First Commander, he did the same thing to a scientist who refused to cooperate." This retroactively confirms Styvin is a Sylvian Order member — and that the ability to physically freeze and imprison others is a standard Sylvian capability, not something unique to him.

Personality

Intimidating and evaluating: From the moment Styvin enters a room, he assesses people — judging their usefulness. When entering the palace roundtable, he looked directly at Tomas as if he knew where to look before even stepping through the door.

Absolute authority: Delivers commands with gravitas. Compliance is not optional. Uses the phrase "for the protection of the Empire" to justify immediate demands.

Efficient and cold: Leaves without explanation after demonstrating his power. Does not waste words. Nods approvingly at a scientist frozen in terror.

Selective interest: Clearly more interested in Tomas than anyone else in the roundtable room — only began surveying the rest of the room after Tomas broke eye contact.

Role and Titles

1st Commander of the Royal Brigade — the highest military rank in the imperial armed forces.

Vanquisher of the Rotten Branch — earned through some significant conflict or event (nature unknown; mentioned as part of his formal title).

Great-Grandson of the Emperor — direct descendant of Rovin Warpine, who has ruled for 400 years.

His Royal Highness Lord Commander — formal address befitting his military rank and royal lineage.

Story Arc — SFL-TA

Year 7354 — SYMMETRY Response

When SYMMETRY was detected approaching Lukyr Prime, Styvin led the imperial response.

Palace roundtable (SFL-TA Chapter 3): Styvin arrived at a palace meeting where Tomas and other scientists waited. Announced with full ceremony, he entered and immediately locked eyes with Tomas — evaluating him, judging his usefulness.

Styvin commanded Tomas to leave Lukyr in service of the Emperor to intercept SYMMETRY. When a young scientist attempted to withdraw, Styvin froze him in place with an unknown ability, then left without explanation.

His Knights of the Royal Brigade remained standing guard after he departed.

Miran Keldt, High Commander of the Royal Research Guild (one rank below Styvin), conducted the detailed mission briefing afterward. Miran clearly reports to Styvin.

Relationships

Rovin Warpine — great-grandfather; Emperor of Lukyr; ruled for 400 years (just under 500 years old). Styvin acts with Rovin's authority and serves his will absolutely.

Miran Keldt — High Commander of the Royal Research Guild; one rank below Styvin. Miran reports to Styvin and carries out his directives.

Tomas Lithe — physicist conscripted to intercept SYMMETRY. Styvin singled him out immediately, evaluating his usefulness, and commanded him to leave Lukyr for the mission.

Knights of the Royal Brigade — his soldiers; follow his commands without question; remained at the palace roundtable even after Styvin left.

Open Questions

  1. What was the Rotten Branch, and how did he vanquish it?
  2. How old is Styvin exactly? (200-350 estimate based on appearance and lineage)
  3. Why was he so specifically interested in Tomas?
  4. What is Styvin's role in Rovin's government beyond military command?
  5. How did he survive the major neck-to-hairline scar?
  6. What happened to the young scientist he froze? (Now confirmed imprisoned via Sylvian power — is the imprisonment temporary?)
  7. How long has Styvin been a Sylvian, and who recruited him?
