INI-Experiments
The INI-Experiments were secret government-funded human experiments that resulted in multiple deaths and were ultimately abandoned. Zet discovered evidence of them in an Abandoned Station during her investigation in Chapter 7.
Discovery
Zet sent a repair drone from her military communications satellite into the abandoned station, where she found:
- A large server (recently shut down — "a few hours" before her arrival)
- A medical room in disarray with scattered equipment
- Multiple human skeletons
- A large soot patch suggesting an explosion
- Damaged storage drives from a personal computer
From the drives, Zet recovered a partially corrupted resignation letter from Dr. Coron to "My Lord" describing the experiments' failure.
Known Details
Participants:
- 16 volunteers (based on encoded text: "MTYg dm9sd 50ZWVy w==" — appears to be base64)
- Led by Dr. Coron
- Funded by "My Lord" (likely a king, Qyvin Warpine, or high-ranking official)
Outcome:
- Complete failure — no lasting success achieved
- Multiple deaths (exact number corrupted in the letter)
- Subject "3 is intact but impossible to [corrupted]" — unclear meaning
- Catastrophic event (explosion?) in the medical room
- Facility abandoned with bodies still inside
- Dr. Coron resigned immediately
Project Name: "INI-Experiments" — meaning of "INI" unknown
Connection to Kyrants
Zet suspects the experiments involved Kyrants (super-heavy elements with strange properties) based on:
- Dr. Coron's possible identity as Dr. Lisa Coron, a kyrantologist
- The strange, catastrophic nature of the failure
- The deaths and explosion being consistent with dangerous element exposure
- The government's historical interest in kyrant applications
Timeline Ambiguity
The station appears to have been abandoned for decades, possibly longer. However:
- The server was running until "a few hours" before Zet's Chapter 7 investigation
- Someone recently shut it down — possibly in response to Zet's earlier visit
- This suggests ongoing monitoring or automated systems, or that someone else is investigating
Connection to Kyrantia
The disease Kyrantia (which afflicts Lucas Taldo) shares etymological roots with "kyrants." If the INI-Experiments involved kyrant exposure and resulted in deaths, Kyrantia may be a long-term consequence of kyrant contamination — making Lucas's condition directly connected to this secret history.
Government Cover-Up
Key evidence of a cover-up:
- No public documentation of the experiments (none that Zet can access)
- Bodies left at the scene rather than properly recovered
- Station abandoned rather than decommissioned through official channels
- No records of Dr. Coron's work in this area
- The government "has always prided itself with transparency" — but Zet suspects "it wasn't as true anymore as one would hope"
Open Questions
- What does "INI" stand for?
- What was the goal of the experiments — medical treatment, human enhancement, weaponization, kyrant integration?
- What happened to cause the explosion and deaths?
- What does "3 is intact but impossible to [corrupted]" mean?
- Who was monitoring the station server, and why did they shut it down when Zet investigated?
- How many people in the current government know about these experiments?
- Were there other similar experiments, or was this unique?
- Is Kyrantia a legacy of these experiments?
