Gamma Eona is a star system roughly 1.8 light-years from the Lukyr system. It is the Empire's nearest neighbour system and the site of a secret, century-long frontier war: it holds the kyrant-rich colony world Gamma Eona Primus, homeworld of the Aeonites, and is the destination of King Covian Warpine's Frontier Recovery Mission.
Overview
Gamma Eona contains the inhabited world Gamma Eona Primus, homeworld of the alien Aeonites. Imperial propaganda recasts it as a Lukyrian kyrant-mining colony — claiming a 7728 settlement, a 7748 discovery of kyrant deposits, and a 7913 colonist revolt — but this is a cover story to conceal the aliens' existence. In truth the system is the front of a secret, long-running war against a non-human civilisation.
The Frontier War (8044)
By 8044 the war had been ongoing and unsuccessful for years (see the Frontier Strategic Report (8041)), prompting King Covian to lead the Frontier Recovery Mission there in person. When his fleet arrived (~17 November 8044), the system held no Aeonite fleet, base, or infrastructure — only the wreckage of tens of thousands of destroyed Lukyrian warships ringing Gamma Eona Primus. Confronted with this, Covian resolved to destroy the planet itself.
Earlier Reference (7354)
Long before its settlement, "Gamma Eona" was named in SFL-TA Chapter 6 as the destination Byran Kale (and possibly Miryana Dorense) secretly programmed into the SYMMETRY intercept ship in 7354, erasing the mission parameters in a failed defection attempt. Kristopher Yette confirmed only that it was "another star system." Why Byran sought to divert to a system that would not be colonized for nearly four more centuries is unresolved.
Open Questions
- What did Byran Kale know of Gamma Eona when he tried to defect there in 7354, given it is the Aeonites' homeworld rather than a Lukyrian colony?
- How do the Aeonites contest the system without any visible ships or stations?
