Social Relationships:

Zet's Infiltration

Elena was Zet's second (and successful) target for security badge cloning after failing to intercept Deric Venn:

The Process:

  1. Zet identified her as cooling technician with server room access
  2. Caught up to her on correct floor
  3. Attempted to scan badge from floor—didn't work (expected)
  4. Climbed up Elena's legs while she walked, holding onto fabric of pants
  5. Elena reacted subconsciously—shook her leg slightly—but didn't notice the bot
  6. Scanned security badge when bot reached belt level
  7. Climbed over to her arm (angled and moving as she gestured)
  8. Walked over sleeve hoping to avoid detection
  9. Scanned implant signature
  10. Prepared both signals for cloning
  11. Dropped down from arm near server room doors

Elena's Unawareness:
Despite the bot climbing on her body twice (legs and arm), Elena never consciously noticed. This demonstrates:

Security Credentials

Elena's credentials gave Zet everything needed to access server rooms during fire alarm protocol:

When fire alarm reduces security, these two factors alone would open server room doors (skipping facial/fingerprint scans).

Death

Elena was killed instantly in the explosion at 1:46pm on 8044-09-20, just minutes after Zet cloned her credentials. The explosion occurred just outside the server rooms on the 78th floor—possibly where she was heading for her maintenance work.

Zet's reaction:

"People that had been in these spaces seemed for the most part to have been instantly vaporized—Vira, Deric, Elena. They were gone, as completely as few people ever were. I was going to remember them—whether I wanted to or not."

Her death is "seared" into Zet's memory as a permanent trauma.

Significance

Elena represents:

The mundane details of her conversations (disliking supervisor, co-worker's cat) make her death more tragic—she was living an ordinary day when catastrophe struck.
