Kyrantia
Kyrantia is a terminal illness that afflicts Lucas Taldo. This diagnosis is the answer to Lucas's Chapter 2 statement that Zet was meant to "help people — help me" — Lucas created or activated Zet hoping she could find a cure.
Known Facts
- Lucas suffers from Kyrantia (revealed in Chapter 8)
- It is described as a terminal illness
- Lucas hoped Zet could help cure it
- The name suggests a possible connection to Kyrants (super-heavy elements with strange properties)
Chapter 8 Revelation
Marc Laho explicitly names Lucas's Kyrantia diagnosis during their conversation about whether to help the LPRMP find Zet. Marc frames the choice pragmatically: "hopefully curing Kyrantia is just a nice bonus" to helping people more broadly. This reframes Lucas's dilemma from purely ethical (hunting a sentient being) to personal survival (saving his own life).
The mention shifts Lucas's perspective immediately — he accepts the LPRMP offer and signs the employment contract.
Open Questions
- What are the symptoms and progression of Kyrantia?
- How advanced is Lucas's condition? How long does he have?
- Is there any conventional treatment, or is it universally fatal?
- Is the disease related to Kyrants (the elements), and if so, how? Exposure? Radiation? Metabolic interaction?
- Does Zet know about Lucas's diagnosis, or will she discover it later?
- Can Zet actually cure it, or was Lucas's hope unfounded?
Etymology Note
The disease name "Kyrantia" closely resembles "kyrants" (Kyrants), the super-heavy elements discovered in the Lukyr system 300 years ago. This suggests the disease may be caused by or related to kyrant exposure or contamination — particularly relevant given the INI-Experiments also involved kyrants and resulted in deaths.
