Royal Houses
The Royal Houses are the noble institutions of Lukyr Prime, comprising aristocratic families that have persisted within the imperial power structure for centuries. Many houses are centuries old; a significant number have fallen into irrelevance over time, while the most competent have maintained their status through strategic positioning.
Structure
Each house is led by a House Elder, who commands the house's political influence and, in times of conflict, personally pilots the house's Elder Star-class combat vessel. The double-barreled naming convention used by royals (e.g., "Fin Erick-Warpine", "Tayra Wylk-Warpine", "Paulo Duwirth-Warpine") reflects membership in both a specific house and the broader Warpine Dynasty.
Known Houses
- House Erick — one of the oldest houses; centuries-old feud with House Shtor
- House Shtor — one of the oldest houses; deployed assassination drones during the Government District conflict
- House Wylk — associated with Tayra Wylk-Warpine
- House Duwirth — associated with Paulo Duwirth-Warpine; absent from the Palace blockade (Chapter 38)
- House Fring — absent from the Palace blockade
- House Holon — absent from the Palace blockade
- House Vey — absent from the Palace blockade
- House Porte — absent from the Palace blockade
- House Lunlog — absent from the Palace blockade
Inter-House Feuds
Houses maintain multi-generational conflicts that can persist for centuries. The feud between House Erick and House Shtor is described as "particularly old" — so old that historic records make no mention of its origin. During the Government District civil war, House Shtor used the chaos as cover to act on this feud, deploying assassination drones against House Erick members.
Role in Imperial Politics
Mass Arrest Crisis (Chapter 38)
When Emperor Qyvin Warpine ordered the arrest of all Great House members, the Houses responded with a coordinated show of force: 122 Elder Star-class combat vessels — one from nearly each Great House — surrounded the Royal Palace with House Elders personally piloting them. Qyvin publicly declared the Houses were "not my family," framing them as a threat to be destroyed rather than subjects to be governed. This triggered open warfare on the Palace grounds.
Houses absent from the blockade: Duwirth, Fring, Holon, Vey, Porte, and Lunlog.
Government District Conflict (Chapter 40)
The broader chaos of Qyvin's crackdown created an environment where houses could settle old scores under cover of civil disorder. At least one house (Shtor) used the opportunity for targeted assassinations against rival house members.
